Myobrace for Children in London

Myobrace is a series of soft, removable appliances worn for a short period each day and overnight. Rather than pulling teeth into line, it works on the habits behind crowding: mouth breathing, tongue position and swallowing pattern. We use it to support the natural growth of a child's jaws and teeth.

A full course varies from child to child. We confirm the timeframe and suitability at your initial consultation.

Our dentists provide this care at 111 Regent's Park Road, Primrose Hill.

Correcting early dental development

Crowded or protruding teeth in a young child often trace back to how the jaws are growing and how the child breathes and swallows. Parents usually notice the crowding, or gaps, or a lip that does not close at rest. We use dental x-rays where needed to see the developing teeth, as part of the paediatric dentistry in London we provide. Any decay is dealt with alongside, with paediatric crowns where a baby tooth needs protecting, so the appliance sits in a healthy mouth.

Planning for growing smiles

Choosing an appliance for a child is a decision that needs a diagnosis first, because Myobrace only works for the right child at the right age. Our dentists assess your child, and Dr Kia Papagalani, specialist orthodontist (GDC No. 228487), advises on whether Myobrace, Invisalign First for growing smiles, or simple monitoring is the better route.

Costs are itemised before you commit, so you know exactly what you are paying for. Suitability and timescale are confirmed at the initial consultation.

We also work with children who have dental anxiety, and plan the visits around that.

Who can benefit from this system

Children whose teeth are crowded or whose jaws are developing narrow, particularly where a habit such as mouth breathing or thumb-sucking is involved. Many parents feel guilty about noticing crowding late; it is common and there is no judgement at our Primrose Hill practice. Our dentists assess whether Myobrace is right or whether other children's dental treatments would fit better.

Suitability depends on your child's age, stage of development and willingness to wear the appliance. We go through the process at the consultation.

Your child's appliance path

The first dental visit

We assess your child at a first dental visit, confirm whether the appliance suits their development, and explain the process and timeline.

Custom appliance fitting

We select and fit the right stage of appliance and show your child how to wear it. If early orthodontic treatment may be needed later, we explain how the two fit together.

Active wear phase

Your child wears the appliance for the set time each day and while asleep, and does the daily breathing and tongue exercises that go with it. We are honest that results depend on this routine.

Progress reviews

Regular check-ups let us see how the teeth and jaws are responding, check the fit, and move to the next appliance stage at the right time.

Completion and monitoring

Once the developmental goals are met we finish the active phase, assess the result, and keep an eye on it as your child grows.

Clinical expertise for natural development

Guiding jaw growth improves the position of the developing teeth. Where aligners are the better tool, we use removable aligners rather than fixed braces for growing mouths.

Our clinical team is led by Dr Ope Sodeinde, GDC-registered specialist periodontist (GDC No. 104071), and provides children's dental exams and cleanings, fluoride treatments, and dental hygiene for younger patients alongside appliance therapy.

Where a tongue tie is restricting tongue position, we use a diode laser for the division. We also give families nutrition advice and repair damaged teeth with tooth-coloured composite resin.

Common concerns about appliance therapy

How much does Myobrace cost?

We confirm the cost at the initial assessment, once we know which stages your child needs.

How long does Myobrace take?

It varies with the child and how consistently the appliance is worn. We set out the expected timeframe and milestones at the consultation.

Is Myobrace painful?

The appliance is soft and there is no tightening. Some children find it strange at first, and we help them get used to it gradually.

How long do the results last?

That depends on your child's wear and how their growth responds. We discuss what is needed to hold the result at the assessment.

Our dentists carry out these assessments at our Primrose Hill practice.

Assess your child's dental development

Our dentists decide whether Myobrace suits your child at a physical examination. Read what happens at your child's dental consultation and how to book so you have the facts before proceeding.

Developing Young Smiles

If Myobrace is not the right fit, we can discuss Invisalign First for growing smiles or early orthodontic treatment instead.

After the assessment you receive a written plan and itemised quote that is yours to keep. Arrange your assessment with the clinical team to find out whether Myobrace is right for your child.
